breast augmentation is enhancing your breast size with either a breast implant or using your own fatty tissue
Sometimes, the breast is small in size compared to the mass of the body or is asymmetric, meaning that one is smaller than the other and wants to correct its symmetry.
There may also be losses in breast size due to age, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and breast cancer.
Such cases require a surgical procedure to enlarge and correct the breast, either using breast implants or fat transfer to increase the size of the breast.
breast augmentation surgery
BEFORE OPERATION
Before the breast augmentation surgery, there will be a session with your doctor to examine your body proportions and discuss with you your expectations, then choose the appropriate procedure.
A breast lift may be required along with a breast augmentation for sagging breasts to look fuller and lifted.
Breast lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Your plastic surgeon will assist you in making this decision.
After that, the doctor performs some appropriate medical tests.
DURING OPERATION
Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes about 1,1.5 hours.
If the option for breast augmentation is fat transfer, here the surgeon simply removes some of your own fat, using liposuction, from a fat-yielding body part (such as your abdomen, thighs, or flanks) processes it, and then injects it into your breasts.
In breast augmentation using implants, your surgeon makes an incision, creates a pocket in the chest/breast area, and places an implant in the pocket.
The implant is placed in a pocket either:
Underneath the pectoral muscle, which is located between the breast tissue and chest wall.
Underneath the breast tissue and on top of the pectoral muscle.
An incision can be made in one of four places:
- Inframammary: Underneath the breast, just above the crease
- Transaxillary: Near the armpit, where the arm meets the chest area
- Periareolar: Around the lower edge of the areola (the dark area surrounding the nipple.)
- Transumbilical: in the navel.
AFTER OPERATION
You should wear a special medical bra through the recovery period and follow the doctor’s instructions. The results of breast augmentation are immediately visible
