Breast Implants in Turkey

Turkey is a Top Destination for Cosmetic Surgery

Breast augmentation, which is also known medically as “augmentation mammoplasty” and sometimes referred to as a “boob job” by patients, is one of the most popular cosmetic operations used to increase the size, shape, or fullness of the breasts. Turkey has developed into one of the world’s leading destinations for cosmetic surgery, especially breast augmentation. In Turkey, breast implant treatments are among the most common, giving ladies the chance to boost their self-esteem while having a memorable vacation.

Choosing Breast Augmentation Reasons

Breast implants aren’t just about enhancing appearance—they serve a variety of purposes, including:

  1. Restoring breast volume lost due to weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
  2. Correcting asymmetry for a more balanced appearance.
  3. Boosting body confidence for those who feel their breasts are too small or out of proportion.
  4. Reconstruction after a mastectomy or injury, helping women regain a sense of normalcy and empowerment.

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation are physically healthy individuals with realistic expectations. Whether it’s for cosmetic enhancement or medical reconstruction, this procedure offers women a chance to feel more confident in their bodies.

Types of Breast Implants

Breast implants come in two main varieties:

  1. Silicone Implants: Pre-filled with silicone gel, silicone implants have a texture that is comparable to that of real breast tissue. Because of their realistic texture, silicone implants are favored; nevertheless, they need to be regularly checked to make sure they stay in place.
  2. Saline Implants: Sterile salt water fills these implants. During surgery, they are first placed as empty shells and subsequently filled. Compared to silicone implants, saline implants are less costly and offer a consistent shape, but they could feel less natural.

Shapes of Breast Implants

Breast implant shapes is an important choice in breast augmentation since it affects the overall aesthetic outcome and how genuine the results look. Implants are available in a variety of forms (round or teardrop) and textures (smooth or textured), which affect how the breast will ultimately look and feel. Considering that breast implants’ external surfaces can be either smooth or textured, which affects how stable the implant’s form is. A comprehensive review of these shapes, together with their benefits, drawbacks, and considerations, is provided below.

Round vs Teardrop Implant Shapes

Round Breast Implants

The form of round implants is symmetrical and circular. They are filled with silicone gel or saline and are the most popular option for breast augmentation. Round implants produce a more noticeable cleavage as they increase upper-pole fullness. When standing, these implants appear natural as they effortlessly blend in with the breast pocket. During surgery, they are easier to position and don’t need to be aligned (Araco et al., 2014). Keeping in mind that round implants have smooth surfaces that allow the implant to move more naturally within the breast pocket but provide less stability. Though, their look is unaffected by rotation within the breast pocket since they are symmetrical. However, might not look as natural in individuals that have insufficient breast tissue, especially with underweight patients. Their advantages and disadvantages can be summarized as shown below.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Round Shaped Breast Implants.

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Enhanced FullnessLess natural compared to other shapes
Natural Appearance in Upright Position
Ease of Placement
Rotation Not an Issue

Round implants are ideal for people having breast reconstruction or who want to look fuller and more lifted (Araco et al., 2014).

Teardrop-Shaped (Anatomical) Breast Implants

Teardrop implants resemble the breast’s natural slope, with larger fullness at the bottom and a tapered top. They are frequently chosen for their soft, natural appearance. Commonly used in breast reconstruction situations to provide a realistic result (Maxwell & Gabriel, 2015). In the case of implants rotation an uneven appearance could be seen, that would need to be fixed. However, its textured surface minimizes the risk of rotation by promoting tissue adherence. Also, teardrop implants may feel firmer due of the cohesive silicone gel utilized. Moreover, these implants are typically more expensive than round ones.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Teardrop Breast Implants.

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Reconstruction UseRisk of Rotation
Higher Cost
Slightly Firmer Feel

Teardrop implants tend to be recommended for people having post-mastectomy reconstruction or for those looking for a slight augmentation (Maxwell & Gabriel, 2015).

Understanding the differences between round and teardrop-shaped breast implants facilitates cooperation between patients and surgeons in order to achieve the intended cosmetic outcomes. The choice is based on the surgeon’s experience, personal anatomy, and aesthetic preferences. Each shape has advantages and disadvantages of its own. To further customize the appearance of projection and fullness based on the patient’s preferences round and teardrop implants are offered in a variety of profiles, including low, moderate, and high.

Choosing the Best Breast Implant Size & Profile

Breast implant size is not defined by cc alone. Chest width and implant profile play a decisive role in the final breast shape.

Why Chest Width Matters As Much As CC

Many patients focus on implant volume (cc), but chest width is one of the most important anatomical factors in breast augmentation.

On a narrow chest (approximately 26 cm):

  • The same implant appears fuller and more projected
  • Higher volumes can create a more dramatic and prominent look
  • Upper pole fullness becomes more noticeable

What this means:
A 400 cc implant on a narrow chest may look similar in fullness to a much larger implant on a wider chest.

This is why cc alone does not determine how large or natural the breasts will look.

300 cc, 400 cc, and 500 cc breast implants placed on a 26 cm chest width, demonstrating how implant volume appears fuller and more projected on a narrow rib cage.

The Same Implants on a Wider Chest

300 cc, 400 cc, and 500 cc breast implants on a 30 cm chest width, illustrating how wider chest anatomy distributes volume differently compared to a narrow chest.

On a wider chest (approximately 30 cm), the exact same implants behave very differently:

  • The volume is distributed over a wider base
  • Breasts appear wider rather than projected
  • Larger cc values may be required to achieve visible fullness

For example:

  • A 300 cc implant may look subtle
  • A 400 cc implant often appears natural and balanced
  • A 500 cc implant creates noticeable volume without excessive projection

This demonstrates why implant selection must always consider rib cage width, not just desired cup size.

Implant Volume vs. Chest Width: What Patients Often Don’t Realize

  • Same cc ≠ same breast size
  • Narrow chest = more projection per cc
  • Wide chest = more spread, less forward projection

This is one of the most common reasons patients feel implants look “smaller than expected” when chest width is not considered.

Implant Profile: How Shape Is Refined

Side view comparison of a 400 cc breast implant in low, moderate, and high profile, showing differences in projection and breast contour.

While chest width determines how much space the implant occupies, implant profile defines how the volume projects forward.

Using the same 400 cc implant:

Low Profile

  • Wider base, less projection
  • Softer, flatter side view
  • Often preferred for a very natural appearance

Moderate Profile

  • Balanced width and projection
  • Natural contour with gentle fullness
  • One of the most commonly chosen profiles

High Profile

  • Narrower base with greater forward projection
  • More pronounced upper pole
  • Ideal for patients with narrow chests or those seeking a fuller look

Even with the same volume, changing the profile can dramatically alter the final breast shape.

Several criteria determine whether to choose teardrop or round implants:

  • Aesthetic Goals: For a more intense, fuller appearance, round implants are perfect, while teardrop implants perform better for soft and natural-looking shapes.
  • Existing Breast Anatomy: Round implants may provide a more natural appearance for people with more natural breast tissue, whilst teardrop implants may be more advantageous for individuals with less breast tissue.
  • Lifestyle and Risk Tolerance: The possibility of teardrop implant rotation may need to be taken into account by patients who participate in high-impact activities.
  • Surgeon’s Recommendation: When suggesting an implant shape, a professional surgeon takes the patient’s body type, skin elasticity, and desired results into account.

Surgical Procedure and the placement of Breast Implants

Breast augmentation typically takes 1-2 hours; in order to insert the implants, the surgeon creates a passageway in the breast tissue by making an incision on the breast crease (Araco et al., 2014) which involves first of all incision placement where the surgeon creates an incision in one of three locations;

  1. Along the areolar edge (periareolar incision),
  2. In the natural breast fold (inframammary incision),
  3. in the armpit (transaxillary incision).

Then comes the placement of the implant where it gets positioned either; subglandularly (under the breast tissue) or submuscularly (under the chest muscle). Those 2 placements methods were summarized as shown in the table below.

Subglandular and Submuscular Implant Placement.

PropertySubglandular Placement (Above the Muscle)Submuscular Placement (Below the Muscle)
Shorter recovery time with less postoperative discomfort.Provides better implant coverage, especially in individuals with little natural breast tissue.
AdvantageAllows for easier implant positioning during surgery.Reduces the risk of capsular contracture (scar tissue formation around the implant).
More suitable for individuals with sufficient natural breast tissue, as it provides better coverage and reduces implant visibility.Offers a more natural-looking contour and less visible rippling.
Higher risk of visible rippling in individuals with thin tissue.Longer recovery time with more postoperative discomfort.
DisadvantageMay interfere with mammograms more than submuscular placement.Possible movement of the implant during chest muscle contraction (animation deformity).
Potential for more noticeable implant edges.

The better breast implant placement method varies according to the individual’s anatomy, aesthetic goals, and lifestyle. According to Maxwell and Gabriel (2015) for a natural look with thin breast tissue submuscular (below the Muscle) placement is often better due to improved implant coverage and reduced visibility. However, for a faster recovery and sufficient tissue coverage subglandular (above the Muscle) placement may be a more convenient option (ASPS, 2022).

Understanding Breast Ptosis Before Implants

Before considering breast implants, it’s important to understand the condition of your natural breast tissue. One common concern is breast ptosis, or sagging, which can significantly affect implant choice and surgical approach. For patients with moderate to severe sagging, a breast lift may be recommended alongside implants to achieve the desired shape and support.
